Nintendo Pocket Camera (1998)

The Nintendo Pocket Camera was announced 1998-02-21. It was an accessoire for the Nintendo GameBoy and available in four colors (blue, red, yellow and green). There were also two limited edition versions available in transparent purple (Japan only) and gold (US only through mailorder). The golden version came with a Zelda game and it is rumored that there are only 2,000 copies made.

In Japan the camera was called Pocket Camera and in the rest of the world Game Boy Camera. Together with the camera, Nintendo also marketed a pocket printer. The camera itself had 9 features. One could take a picture and animate it, paint it, use it in games, print it and so forth. The camera even gained an entry in the 1999 Guinness Book of Records for being the smallest digital camera. Today, the camera is not really a rarity and abundantly available except for the golden Zelda version of course. Above you can see two pictures taken with this camera.
